Historic Partnership: Apple Adopts Google Gemini to Power Siri with Artificial Intelligence
Apple and Google have announced a multi-year partnership in which Apple will rely on Google’s Gemini AI models to power an enhanced version of its voice assistant Siri, expected to launch in 2026.
In a joint statement, the two companies stated that the partnership will leverage Google’s cloud technologies and AI models as the foundation for Apple’s future technologies.
Apple stated:
“After careful evaluation, we found that Google’s technology provides the most efficient foundation for Apple’s models, and we are excited about the new innovations it will bring to our users.”
According to the statement, AI models will continue to operate on Apple devices and Apple’s private cloud to ensure privacy.
Neither Apple nor Google commented on the financial details of the deal, but previous reports from Bloomberg indicated that the partnership could be worth up to $1 billion annually.
This partnership comes amid intensifying competition in the field of artificial intelligence, where Apple was perceived as lagging behind other major tech companies that have invested billions of dollars in developing AI technologies.
The agreement also coincided with Google recording its best financial results since 2009, and its market value briefly surpassing the $4 trillion mark, overtaking Apple for the first time since 2019.
